Just bought a Maddison pannier rack but i can't attach it. I have a GT aggressor i want to use as a commuter. But when i went to attach the rack using the bolts i can only find the necessary holes in the frame on one side only. There seems to be two holes on one side to hold bolts but none on the other? Can a rack be attached to the GT? Or do i need some clips?

are you talking about the holes near the drop-outs are the ones on the seat stays?

or both sets?

p-clips can be used on the seatstays but not near the dropouts as this is where the load is supported. You'll need a device made by tubus if you don't have the holes - but I'm sure you do - keep looking!

I did mean the holes near the drop-outs. The bike was passed onto me by a friend so i don't know if it originally came with disc brakes. When i got it, it had v-brakes. I was looking at it today and there is a hole where the rear derailleur attaches to the bike. This does seem odd because if i attach it there i'll have to remove the rack to take off the rear derailleur. It does seem illogical for the manufactures to place two holes on one side and none on the other.

Had a look at the GT on the net. It would seem my frame must have had disc brakes and then changed to v-brake. Anyway i'll have to either look for another bike or carry on using my rucksack......bugger.

even if it had disc brakes it will still have the necessary holes.

drop in at a local bike shop and ask them to take a look for the pannier rack mounting holes - I'm sure they will find them!

i've just fitted a rack using the mudguard fittings and a longer mudguard bolt (i only have mudguard fittings on the bike). the front end is secured by p-clips on the seat stays. that said, the rack (obtained via freecycle) seems much better built and with more mounting options than the cheap racks you see for about £15.
