I really want a roadbike but ideally would want to wait to the Spring to purchase it. However there are a few sites offering the 2011 105 spec bike - in preferred black - at less than £900.

I want my new bike to be durable but to also be fast and fun, nothing too serious though.

What's the general concensus of the caad?

Thanks

p.s. It gets rave reviews so if it's a bargain I'd go for it if you can.

Dayvo of this parish owns one so you could PM him if you don't get any joy here.

I've got a CAAD5 which is a fantastic bike and I'm pretty sure sure that a CAAD10 would be even better. I paid £500+ just for my frame and forks so I'd say that a complete CAAD10 bike for less than £900 is a bargain.

I have a CAAD10 in black with 105 and if you can get it for under £900 grab it,its a bargain. It looks good and is fast when you want it to be. Fun,all bikes are fun to me in their ways. Only thing I changed was the tyres. As I siad bargain at that price.

+1

I bought a CAAD 9 Tiagra in Oct 10 for more than that.

Great bikes.

Indeed I do: a lovely Cannondale CAAD 10 105

Must admit I've yet to give it a real thrashing (or it me) but it is fast and responsive, and gets me up hills faster than I've been used to, but at no time have I felt unstable or shaky. It really is a great bike, and if weight-saving is your thing, then it has a very light aluminium frame.

I upgraded the wheels to Mavic Ksyrium Elites, and will probably get better tyres, too.

Go get one.

Dayvo - How do you find it comfort wise? Is it quite an arse up, head down kind of bike?

Fortunately my sit bones felt comfortable on the saddle from the off.

Set-up-wise, I've gone for a position of comfort, with a 90mm stem (instead of the standard 120mm one on the 58) and, having propped (at rugby for too many years) didn't want to punish my back any more than necessary.

If you see one, and are serious about buying one, make sure you get it set-up for your needs and requirements.

And it's got to be RED!

After a chat with the shop bloke i ruled it out as it was more "performance" orientated and not as comfortable as maybe the Synapse range. However this was only a brief chat as their "fitter" was off that day. But i still haven't found the right bike and i keep coming back to the 10.. which is in stock in a 58 in my local shop.

Did you have to pay extra to change the stem? What does the shorter stem do to the geometry? Am i right in thinking you are more level on the bike rather than reaching further over or having your head lower?

I'm in the same boat of not wanting to punish my back really. It has to be fast, well made and comfortable after 5 miles or 105 miles.....

Oh and RED.... i've only ever seen black ones........

When I got my CAAD5, I kept reading how uncomfortable oversized aluminium frames were supposed to be. Yes - you can make them uncomfortable by pumping the tyres up to stupidly high pressures, but you can achieve a reasonable comfort level by using lower pressures.

I use 85-90 PSI front, 95-100 PSI rear and find my bike to be comfortable enough. I'm quite fussy about comfort on the bike because I get cramp in my feet and suffer from a bad back.

If you don't want the head-down position, you can fit a riser stem, or do what I did and flip the one fitted to the bike.

PS And I agree with Dayvo - RED is the colour!

Very nice Colin... very nice!

Thanks for the advice. I'll make sure to try the CAAD10 against the Synapse on saturday, LBS pushed the synapse for comfort, but i'll see how they feel.

I bought my CAAD in the States and paid the difference between the stems (the one on the bike and the replacement) - it was just a few dollars, IIRC.

The shorter stem only meant I didn't have to stretch so far (only a few inches) but it felt noticeably more comfortable straight away.

As long as you're happy with your upper body position and your arms are slightly bent at the elbow then you'll be fine.
