I had been hoping to be well trained for this one, but with the weather and life getting in the way Im going to be well off the pace I hoped for.

Ah well, at least it will be a nice ride in good sceanery, if not the "tour de Cannock" I had hoped for.

Fingers crossed for good weather!

Now that the weather looks like it might be ok, I'm looking forward to it! Should be a great day.

Has anyone done a reccie of the starting area? They give the postcode as WS15 2US which will take you here...

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=ws15 2us &hl=en&ll=52.751441,-1.95967&spn=0.001625,0.003889&sll=52.751203,-1.960223&sspn=0.012949,0.031114&t=h&hnear=Rugeley WS15 2US, United Kingdom&z=19

... But it looks like a few private houses and a village hall that wont be big enough for all the cars. Also, I cant see anything about a "Pringle Slade" entrance either.

Any ideas anyone... Elliot events?

I too wasn't sure where the event hq was, so I contacted the organiser, reply below.

The entrance/parking to the event HQ is on Slitting Mill Road, about 2mins from the main birches valley entrance. The postcode provided (WS15 2US) on the website will take you straight there.

I'm just heading for Slitting Mill Road.

I am thinking of doing the "Cannock Chase 100" on the 15th of July but cant seem to find any reviews. I will only be attempting the 62 miles (100km) and I know Cannock Chase can be Bumpy but can anyone who has done the ride give any advice.
Hi Im doing the ride and yes it is very hilly in places but there are some good downhills, watch out for the hill the other side of blithfield reservoir, small but nasty. All the best for the day !!

My legs are still on the course somewhere and I'd like them back lol !!
Good ride tho. Even if I did only have a 53 ring on the front and no small ring.

Some nasty hills !! Marchington cliff was fun ....
Quite a few getting lost on the course , me includuded :cursing: Seems some of the signage was a bit dodgy in places particulary if like me your rubbish at navigating .Couple of peolple saying the garmin map was different to the signs .When support was rang they did not seem to have much of a clue even when told exactly where we were so i lost a fair bucketload of time getting back on track.
Interestingly i can`t say i saw any peletons forming , did a few stints with other people but nothing lasted more a few miles.
Speedo decided to crash just as i set off to i had to reset to metric which is confusing for an old fart like me.Also a bottle cage snapped so i ended up with a bidon in the jersey pocket , at least i got my feed + hydration strategy right.
Got cramp in the hip when i tried to reclip at a junction, legs and triceps aching and you should have seen me try and walk after i drove 20 odd miles home
Ride stats
114.47 km Total recorded distance, might be a bit more as i had to reset after i started .
total cycling time 4 hours 2 mins, not including time spent standing trying to work out where i was
max speed 66 km/h
average speed 28.4
The above figures might be slightly out as i set the wheel diameter to default to save time

Yeah the garmin route was different. I too was surprised how little group riding in did. I only did the 100km & was in a group until the point the rides split - after that it was pretty much solo all the way home - I passed a few stragglers that's all.

The only hiccup I had was my seat pack dropped off.

All in all tho it was a great event - I'd definitely do it again.

... All worth it in the end though - pretty pleased with my official time of 3:33:08 :-)

I ignored the official time , went to far due to navigation issues and trying to find my way back etc .The map issues could be resolved if i got a garmin but there were numerous groups on the road standing round looking confused.
Not sure i could recommend it TBH as i have paid similar with better support that even had roving motorbike breakdown cover and better signage .I know it was the 1st one so i might give the organisers the benefit of the doubt .
I did like the timing chips, the medal
