I am thinking of doing the "Cannock Chase 100" on the 15th of July but cant seem to find any reviews. I will only be attempting the 62 miles (100km) and I know Cannock Chase can be Bumpy but can anyone who has done the ride give any advice.

Just signed up for 100k.... but might ride there and back adding 20 miles to it.

georgiebuzz - The Cannock Chase 100 is a new event this year. All three routes are viewable via www.cannockchase100.org.uk along with downloadable GPX files. We carried out several route reccies prior to adding the routes to the website to make sure all the roads are suitable i.e. not too narrow or full of pot-holes and debris. Each route includes lots of scenic stretches, climbs and descents. They'll be feed stations along the route and plenty of signage.

The event starts and finishes at the Pingle Slade entrance of Birches Valley Forest Centre, WS15 2US where there will be plenty of free parking for event participants. Riders and family members can also take advantage of the facilities (including public toilets, visitor centre, café and picnic/play area) at the Birches Valley Centre which is just a couple of minutes walk from the start/finish area.
With over 200 riders already registered for the event and lots of goodies secured for the feed stations it's going to be a great day out. To keep up to date with the latest Cannock Chase 100 news join us on Facebook and Twitter.

Hope to see you on 15th July along with PaulSecteur.

Hi CyberKnight,

We will hopefully have the feed station details confirmed and published this week on the site & we will be aiming to have toilet facilities at the them but this is still to be agreed.

I am thinking about going there as well. The only way i could get to the location is by cycling there, not really done any big rides all in one go so i shall have a ride out this weekend and see how long it take me (regardless of the weather).

Can anyone tell me what it is like ie rideing with groups of people, is it a mad dash or are you allowed to go at your own pace. I know the website says it is not a race but people are people and they will do things there own way, i just don't want to get knocked off my bike or trapped in a pack and cause an accident.

Sorry for the ramble, i am keen as it would be my first cycling event, and i am also nervoues as i don't do crowds. Your help and advice would be appreciated.

I doubt you get trapped in a pack ,if they are going faster or slower than you then the group will naturally depart from you chosen pace .There will be numerous riders all setting off at different times and at different speeds so ride at your own pace and enjoy yourself. If you end up in a group riding at similar pace then only ride as close as you feel comfortable with, its nice if you can take a token turn at the front but do not be bullied into riding at a pace your uncomfortable with ,if you ever feel like your uncomfortable in a group then make it clear to the group that they can come by and carry on at your own pace.
have you a local club you can join ? any good club should have a number of rides with a begineers group that you can learn how to group ride if you want to.

You can always go at your own pace.

If the group is too slow then say your goodbys if you have been chatting and get to your pace.

If they go to fast then let the people behind know you will be slowing and let them be on their way.

Thank you for the links. Could you tell me if it is ok to carry a hydro bag or is that bad form.
Use what you like, i have seen people on MTB,hybrids and roadies in clothing from normal street clothes to full on lycra so wearing a hydro pack is up to you.The only thing you might need to check with the organizers is whether they specify helmets , the last one i did theydid and also no aero bars (although i did see a few folk with them )

This time next week you'll be enjoying the Staffordshire countryside at the Cannock Chase 100 #cc100. We've got everything crossed for some dry weather. Looking forward to seeing you next Sunday.
