Our cycle tracks have gates and chicanes so that only the smallest things, i.e. pedal bikes can use them and I have never seen any small motor bikes so far. Long may it continue!

People who complain about such gates and chicanes such as Jonny Moore in His book 'The Height Of Madness' obviously have no brain.

Planners can be brain dead at times... "We need to stop motorcycles using the cycle track... so lets make sure those with a pram or pushchair, wheelchair or mobility scooter cant use them either, and whilst were at it. we''ll make 'em a pain in the arse for cyclists too."

They are not as bad as they once were, I'll admit, and anyway, they aren't a pain to cyclists once you get it all right - you can be through and away again in just a few seconds, hell, you don't even have to stop fully in a lot of cases!
I'd still rather have them instead of twats on motor bikes terrorising families with small kids and the farm animals mentioned below.

What I was actually referring to we're the comments about the cycle track in my local area in the aforementioned book - he gets to Erskine, and proceeds to complain because there are two gates in short succession to each other. But, get this, it is because the path CROSSES A ROAD in between..... and then later on he's complaining about the gates again.... on a stretch where almost all of the gates are through someone's farm and are there to prevent the cows from escaping, but oh no, it is all too much of an inconvenience to him, seemingly the cows should be able to wander where they like!

The simple fact is that a lot of the gates are there for a reason, even if it isn't immediately obvious! In my area anyway
