I need help to justify this purchase!

Just ordered this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/gt-traffic-1-2016/

it was a purchase I wasn't intending on making, the interest free period made it to good to pass.

I commute 14 miles a day.

I don't want a road bike. Any other hybrids I should have considered?

My present commuter is also a GT it's an avalanche 1.0., getting on for 10 years old, no mounts, I've got decent 26in wheels on it and a carbon fork, it needs a few new bits, cassette, chain, FD, it's 9 speed so parts are getting limited.

I'm thinking will the 26in wheels fit the new GT as it comes with 700c wheels? or would the 700c wheels be the better bet? do they alter the feel of the ride much?Do expensive wheels make that much difference?

I'm just struggling to justify the purchase now.

Just thinking time I buy guards, and fit them badly, as no mounts and a large gap between front wheel and frame for the guard, and the few parts a need, I might as well have a new bike?

I don't like drops, uncomfortable and I feel I can view the road better with flat bars, feel safer with flat bar brakes.

I love the thought of a road bike i.e faster and lighter, I just can't get past the above points.

The bike you linked doesn't have drops?!

You can always add cross lever brakes to a drop bar bike, best of both worlds

Exactly, I don't like drops.
So what have you ordered then? I'm confused

I reckon I spend 2-5% of my ride on the drops.

You're still more aerodynamic riding a lighter bike on narrower tyres on the hoods. Potentially more road friendly gearing too
