Was looking at overnight stays around wheelton and gargrave. I will be doing the ride for An ex forces charity who can provide a support crew using my van as a support vehicle.

Why don't you see if more people will do it with you?

More people, more money raised, and some company along the way to motivate each other. I did a 10k for charity last year going from 0 to 10k in four months. Did it for Cancer charity, to pay back for the wonderful treatment I got from Macmillan. In the end it was 6 of us and raised a few thousand and the company was great especially the last 4k!

beware, I know two people that have ended up in the water cycling on canal towpaths, simply through lack of concentration!

Can anyone give any guidance as to what kit to take and also nutrition during ride/training. Increasing my mileage another 5 to 10 mile per outing this week thanks

Kit to take?

My top three items for any sort of longer distance canal ride are a bell, a rear mudguard and overshoes! The bell is invaluable for letting peeps knowing your coming, and as I cant underestimate how much muck will fly up at you the rear guard and overshoes will help keep you dry.

I would really like to see the canals someday. The canal paths look like they could be a lot of fun to cycle on. Now for a question I hope doesn't sound too stupid. Do people jet ski on those canals? Looks like it would be so cool to do that on them.^_^

Although I use straps as I do more on road cycling these days, I think it can be safer esp on the wetter/slippier parts just to use 'flats' so a quick dismount is possible if you find yourself heading towards the wet stuff!
