Riding your age in "Miles"

Since turning 62 half way through last year, I have only manged two, 66 last sept and a 68 yesterday.

At some point we will all fail this challenge, but at what age does it happen

My son can manage it. He's 12.

Met someone on an Audax last weekend who, when he turned 60, rode 60 miles for 60 days.

that is certainly taking it a stage further - wonder if he (or indeed she) will manage 70 70 70 - these things certainly come to an end.

I think I may have passed the point of failure .. I need to do a 72 mile (116km) ride - and I haven't managed that since 2020.

But it's now a target for this year. If we ever get a dry warm day (outside of school holidays and weekends), I'll have a go.

I'm 70. March 4th 2024 I rode 77 miles. On June 24th 2024 I was hit by a tractor driver. I won't bore you with the details but it was a big one.

February 1st this year I was back up to 66 miles. I'd expect to pass 70 in the next few weeks. Just need the weather to improve a bit. At some point in the summer we will probably ride to Silverdale which is 100+.

With luck I'll still be on 80 miles aged 80. I see no reason not to.........age is but a number!

He attacked you ? they can be a horrible aggressive self entitled lot and seem to exist outside the law in some parallel legal universe

or was it a collision with the tractor, ? they are often aggressively and carelessly driven - did you know that there is no requirement for an HGV licence to drive them and they are often as big as HGVs

I had one yesterday on a narrow road coming in the opposite direction, he moved towards me as we passed forcing me into the side - clearly playing with his phone, crap distracted driving or putting me in my place ?

OK. No the tractor driver didn't attack me. He was driving his tractor and hit me with the tractor. I may be a bit pedantic I suppose but I refuse to say "I was hit by a tractor" when in fact I was hit because of the tractor driver's actions.

By the same token I wasn't in an RTA (accident), implying it was unavoidable, I was in an RTC (crash) on the basis the tractor driver crashed into me. It's an important distinction, especially when a driver is to blame.

I'm almost 67, I don't think I could do that mileage, but I can still do 50, so it's not a big step up.
Last time I rode over my age was about 7 years back on one of the ride London bashes.

Not now, at 66 I haven't been able to cycle at all for 5 years. The most I did was 150 aged 51, and the last time I did more than my age was probably 96 aged 53.

Last year, yes. This year, so far no. Getting more difficult though. A 100k audax is only just over 62 miles, which is an increasing number of miles short.
