I've got one of these.

You can get cheaper, but they're not as good. Loads of room, several pockets, loop for a light, integrated waterproof cover, comfy straps.
Done 80+ miles with it on my back and barely noticed it was there!

If you're just after a cheap basic rucksack, you can't go far wrong with Britains favourite capitalist:

I've had a couple of Karrimor rucksacks over the years and they're fine for the money.

I've also had one of these, which comes with a removable hydration kit: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Woodside-Hydration-Rucksack-Backpack-Cycling/dp/B00D47BQYK?th=1
Also quite good, especially at the price, but the fabric started to tear when I over filled it. Largely cosmetic and my fault, but something to be aware of.

I've yet to find a rucksack that doesn't leave me with a sweaty back.
Even my very expensive, promised the world, berghaus thing.

I've found the Deuter rucksack very good in that respect. Not 100% dry, but certainly the best I've encountered.

Yes, my Deuter rucksack has a wire steel chassis in the bag and a mesh away from the bag, the mesh is the only thing that sits on your back keeping the bag off your back and keeping your back dry

Another Deuter user here, I use the Bike One 20L bag, and ridden a century with it fully loaded (8+ kg), and it was plenty comfortable, well worth the £50.

One thing I can't emphasise enough is straps for your waist/hips as well as a sternum strap, these keep the bag from moving around when riding, making it both more comfortable and also stable. When I first moved to a proper bag after using just a general rucksack it was startlingly different.

bit dear for sandwiches lol

Your sandwiches take up 20-30 litres?

I generally prefer to carry stuff on the bike rather than on me but for those times when it isn't an option, I have an Osprey Talon 11. I would recommend it, not least for the waist belt with pockets, and for the chest strap (agree with @si_c on that matter). I don't know of any backpack that will avoid sweatiness, whatever any of them claim, but the Talon is at least fairly comfortable for cycling and running use, by normal backpack standards.

I also have an Ogio Commuter backpack which is very good if you want more of a briefcase style, with lots of internal pockets and pen holders etc, plus a padded laptop compartment.
