Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. The front QR skewer is on the wrong side...

Partly true, but 1p isn't enough. It depends on the next bid increment and whether a bid has already been accepted at say £100
If the bidding is at say £90 and the next minimum bid you can put in is say £91..it continues that way, so if you want to pay around £100, you'll need to bid £101, that will then outbid £100. £100.01 won't outbid an already placed £100 bid. Does that make sense, it's all about the increments, whatever they are.

Wrong in so many ways if I bid £100.01 and somebody bids £100 after me then I will win if they bid £100.01 I will still win as they haven't beat my bid but this shows them your bid so won't deter them  always bids like 102.51 helps discourage them.

Aslong as your bid is higher you will win it

A colleague of mine once lost a signed Pink Floyd summat or other for 1p, he was proper gutted let me tell you

this doesn't tell the whole story though. the bidder who won could have bid £10 more than your mate, it's just that it only took that small increment to go past the bid your friend made.

best way I find is set your limit, say £200 for instance, add a fiver for luck, bid a minute or so from the end if not already past your limit (obviously), leave the computer to make a cup of coffee so you don't get into a bidding war and come back to see what happens.

Thats right  thats why i said a bid of £100.01 will not beat a £100 bid..if it's already been placed.

it will ^_^ if you bid 100.52 and i bid 100.53 after you have bid i will be the winner

No you won't... It's still about the increments, at over £100, the next bid above will never be 0.01p, it'll be something like £1.00. If you tried to bid £100.53, ebay would tell you you havn't bid enough, then suggest the next minimum bid....which may be £101.52...whatever the increment is.
