Im thinking about putting a bid in on this

Dawes Hybrid

Currently doing a 10 mile commute on an el cheapo full suspension MTB which is heavy!

Any comments on it? Knowing very little about bikes I'd just like to know if its any good for what I want. I dont have much money to play with and my current MTB will be worth nothing . . .

Thanks for your help

Looks like nice bike, should be ideal with some mudguards. Lots of pictures and the EBay seller has been around for a while and has no negative feedback.

From first glance it looks like a very good bike for the money and you'll see a massive difference from your mtb. If thats the right size for you (21", 53.3cm) that looks like a bargain. If your commute is 10 miles oneway however, I'd be inclined to look for something with drop bars (but thats only my preference and may cost more anyway) and if its 10miles round drops will not gain you much, so its not really an issue for me. Somebody with a more technical side will hopefully be along to give you a further review. Good Luck

Set up a snipe so you dont get caught in a bidding war and are tempted to go more than your max.

lol, yeh we'll see...
Got to clear it with er in doors first

or you could say your saving 50-60 quid a month on petrol by cycling and use that money over a year. plus your staying fit and healthy - everyones a winner

If it is somewhere below your maximum when it's finishing, don't place a bid too early and don't bid more than once, it just starts a bidding war.
Wait as long as you dare, 30 seconds before it finishes if you can, and put in your maximum bid. Dont say put £90 on if its at £80, put £100. You'll be gutted if you think you'll get it for £90 and someone bids £95 in the last seconds for instance.

Or just snipe it. Personally i don't snipe, it takes away the fun, i like a bit of stress

And don't forget to make sure you're signed in before the finish. There's nothing worse than sitting there, preparing you bid, hit the send button....and it asks you to log in. Been there, done that

I say 30 seconds before...i like to send mine at 10 seconds before finish.

Another thing...£100 maximum. A few people bidding may be thinking the same. Some people say go to your max and not beyond. If i really wanted it, i'd bid £105, that'll overbid a few perhaps. Whats a fiver ? Depends on how much you want it ?

You bid like me gbb. +1 for the whole snipe thing though, there's nothing quite like sitting there waiting to pounce
Personally I have two windows open, (both signed in ), one with my bid ready and one just watching the item count down. When it hits 10 seconds I start counting, 1, 1000, 2, 1000, 3, 1000 as I switch wondows, then when I get down to 5 seconfs left BANG! I fire my bid in.
Nohting beats finding out you outbid another death bidder
A colleague of mine once lost a signed Pink Floyd summat or other for 1p, he was proper gutted let me tell you

looks an ideal commuter to me. will take mudguards and probably a rack.

21 inch hybrid is for about 5 ft 10 to 6ft tall riders .

Pictures look good and the guy has 100% feedback on 500 plus items .

Re bids, I never bid round figures. A bid of £100.01 will beat a snipers round 100

Good Luck

Looks good. I always judge what a bikes worth based on what a new equivalent costs. Id guess it is something like the Hybrid 301 which retails for about £350 on which basis id say £100 would be a pretty good deal and if its the right size , near you etc etc it might be worth bidding a bit more.

Partly true, but 1p isn't enough. It depends on the next bid increment and whether a bid has already been accepted at say £100
If the bidding is at say £90 and the next minimum bid you can put in is say £91..it continues that way, so if you want to pay around £100, you'll need to bid £101, that will then outbid £100. £100.01 won't outbid an already placed £100 bid. Does that make sense, it's all about the increments, whatever they are.
