rodent type critturs need to chew in order to file their teeth down which are constantly growing. I think you should provide something safe for them to chew like birds have cuttlefish otherwise they'll chew whatever is around them

With my Mum's gerbils when she was younger that was the head of the other gerbil! She found one of them dead one morning, the scull had been knawed through :biggrin:
I've always been quite scared of the evil critters after she told me that ;)

by observation, a 3 dimensional gerbil can't gnaw its way into a 2-dimensional plane. But it could gnaw its way into an infinitely long 1-dimensional rod. Therefore, any n-dimensional gerbil can only gnaw its way into an n-2 (or below) dimensional structure.
