Those warm summer days, shorts and short sleeves, maybe a vest if being extravagant 😁

These cold winter commutes are taking too long to prepare for🤔

Return from todays commute was a reminder…

If I wore all that I'd be saturated before I got to the bottom of the stairs!

I though similar, but then I realized @Ridgeway's location.
For Switzerland in January I probably would need another layer!

I often get ice forming on my bike in winter on the commutes but it rarely gets below -10 so not too cold. Two layer on the legs and four on top isn’t that much in cold conditions IMO. No point in being cold😁

Ice usually builds up on the bars, levers and seat post.

Those warm summer days

I got this far into the first post before I began to suspect they don't live in the west of Scotland.....

I obviously have different blood as I was happy riding in -11C with just two layers (one windproof) up top, and one layer on the legs plus decent gloves or mitts. But then my commute was only 1 hour each way, and I didn’t get too cold in that time, the cycling effort keeping me warm.

yes, I think as long as you can keep moving with a bit of uphill, and a windproof then the body will keep warm (hands and feet need a bit more effort)
Its not just about temperature either, -1 , -2 and dry is not really that cold, but sometimes here, a cold damp wind coming off the sea, it can be 4 above and the cold can get into the bones

for my upper body, only real difference summer to winter is a long knecked T-shoot (long enough to go over the top of my head) and a vest
