This has been out of use since at least Sep 2014, according to Google maps, not that I'd be at much risk setting it off on my bike ;) Not sure why it isn't removed, must be obsolete technology by now in any case.

There's one on the A14 just before the first Cambridge exit that's been bagged since at least 2008 after it was given the burning car tyre treatment

It was still there when I went past at the start of the month

I've noticed a few times now, a sign which says "camera not in use".

What is the logic behind this. A camera is there to guide drivers to keep within the limit. But if the camera is not in use, is this something to encourage drivers to break the limits?

I'd have thought any camera, even dummy ones would be good at restricting speeds.

By having that sign they are giving the impression to driver that all the others are in use but a lot of them won't be.

Surely you’ve seen them? I have. Flying up in the outside lane, not paying enough attention, see the camera, stand on the middle pedal.

You mean criminals and law breakers then? Causing mayhem!

I see what Sharky is getting at. Why not leave them uncovered on the basis that their presence may slow someone down a bit?

Why do road criminals get helped out so much? After all, the police don't put a notice up for shoplifters saying "no coppers on duty in the high street today."

I don't think they need to - the professionals know the prosecution thresholds which are currently in place - soon to be removed, I note.

Yes but not only them, also the ones who might be doing under 70 but still suddenly brake unnecessarily down to under 50. If folks left enough space it wouldn't be an issue of course but in reality any sudden and unnecessary braking can cause knock on issues.
