No need on a road bike, you're seldom that far away from civilisation that you can't top your water bottles up at a cafe or something. I do use one on the MTB though.

No, I find that my back doesn't like them on long road rides, off-road yes as I need to carry more and I am further away from civilisation!

The main disadvantage of bottles for MTBs is that they end up covered in mud and horse poo, so Camelbaks are a huge benefit. Less of an issue for roadbikes I suppose...

Cow poo - the fresh sloppy stuff gets flung everywhere...... I was covered following a clubmate once - neither of us spotted the huge pile (or at least he said he didn't) - just 5 miles into a 60 mile ride - poo everywhere - face, hands, bars, bottle...grim

PS I've considered a camelback for the likes of the Manchester 100, but I was able to refill at the stop point anyway. - Just carried some isostar powder in plastic bags (honest)

no bottle cage mounts and i've never liked water bottles anyway

prefer to have the option of drinking on the go or just reaching for the straw instead of faffing with bottles

but then, i'm a mountain biker, climber, hiker etc so it gets used for anything and everything

just got a backpack type camelback, but feel a little self concious with it on my back in a sort of 'LETS GO OFFROADING' kind of way. Real reason I got it was to fill it with vodka and tonic for festivals and the like. Guess I'll get used to it mind.
