Ive decided to buy an helmet cam Ive been looking at this one http://www.storageoptions.com/products/cams/sport/bikecam which is new to the market I figured with the built in light it will give me a better picture at night not necesarily of the road but if an encounter with a driver or pedestrian ensued and I wanted to film any close up encounter

At £60 its not cheap and one would argue why not invest a little more and go for a contour or similar

Ive done a fair bit of reading and that but its always best to ask someone who has experinece with cams and different types of cams. Incidentaly because this is new to the market there are only 3 examples on you tube and all in good light mind you when you watch them you'd swear the rider had baby rattles strapped to his wheels. Also the nice feature of it doubling as a light adds to its appeal for me

Any Comments?

I would want to know if it will take a bigger card than 4gb. Up to 1 hour of video isn't a lot unless you only commute a short(ish) way. Also does it loop, ie, when the card is full will it start recording again from the beginning.

Hi Yes it takes up to 16gb its a good point about the loop i'll drop an email to the supplier

At 16gb you could well run out of battery before storage space so the looping may be irrelevant.

The quality looks sub-muvi.
I would personally avoid it and get something better. A Drift Innovations camera? Or perhaps a stretch to a Contour.
Have you seen my guide to buying a helmet camera?

Hi gaz yes I have read your guide and I had considered the contour roam or go pro hd hwta are the contour's like at night or poor light? I figured minje would be helmet based so I would not only have to wear a cam but also a light or am I missing something?

A light on your helmet will only help in certain situations. Close ups where there is little light from else where.
The rest of the time it won't do much.

Hi Gaz Ive managed to source a drift x170 Ive read up and it appears to be good value for 58 quid the only draw back being it uses AA batteries so I now need to work out which aa batteries will give me longer recording times however it does include all the mounts and in my case helmet mount

I have a Poseiden waterproof HD 720p camera, it cost me £66 from China via EBay.
For the price it's an excellent camera, battery lasts almost 3 hours, cheap to buy extra batteries as they are generic phone batteries. I use an 8GB memory card which can record over three hours of footage. The footage is good, not quite as good as the ContourHD but not far off, the night video's are just as good as the ContourHD 1080p without all the messing around of changing settings.
My Poseiden survived falling of my bike onto the road and then being driven over by a car.
My only complaint about it is the mountings are not fantastic but with a little bit of thought that can be overcome.
