Done my first 60 miler today with @Doyleyburger in 4 hours 40 mins

Ok I didn't set the world alight as it was more to do with getting the miles in but didn't think it was to bad with 4,700ft of climbing

Anyway I burned 2,472 calories on the ride so is this a good amount burned as I'm also trying to loose weight before my first sportive in April

Seemed a flattish route but nearly 5000ft is always good going I suppose

Full of envy Jason, I guess your backside has got used to the pain then? as mine feels like its being abused after an hour.

That's a good amount of calories burnt. I think 500 cals equates to about 1 lb of fat as far as I can remember.
How did you arrive at that figure?
Don't know how accurate it is but it's the figures from strava

My backside wasn't to bad, a little pain but nothing major, but my hips are pretty sore

40 kcals/mile is often a good role of thumb
That's pleased me then as I'm a little above if strava is to be believed

Well it used to be said that 3500 calories = 1lb of fat but that has proven to be inacurrate as although 3500 does = 1lb of weight loss only a proportion of this would be fat and the rest lean body mass. Stands to reason that the more fat you have as a body % to begin with the more fat you lose when you do burn calories.

It very much depends on your weight and the effort you put in, if you are on the heavy side, you'll burn a few more than someone slimmer putting in the same amount of effort

40 per mile is my rule of thumb too, although long rides have zip effect on my weight, might be all the jelly babies

I find every tool gives a different count!

So today I rode 15 miles in 1hr 16 mins. I currently weigh 16 stone 9 lbs.
  • Garmin says 912 calories burnt
  • MyFitnessPal says 799 calories burnt
  • Strava 390 calories burnt
I don't use a heart rate monitor, these are all based on the stats of the ride and my weight.

Its a bit like, pick a card, any card. You will get different answers in different places.
