Apologies if you have already seen my post in the cycle chat cafe....

I am carrying out some research looking into womens' cycling habits. There are currently no decent stats out there looking at female cyclists and it would be great to build up a picture of cycling among women in the UK. I am also interested in the possibility of dedicated resources for female cyclists and would be really interested to hear views on current provision for female cyclists and whether or not there is demand for female-specific resources.

Please take a minute to fill out this short survey - apologies for its slightly shoddy and unprofessional appearence, it's the best I could come up with!

Although the initial question asks for name, address and email, a simple 'Sarah from London' is fine - I am interested to get a regional picture though so please do try and give me at least a rough idea of whereabouts in the UK you are from. If you have any questions please do contact me at cathywallace@hotmail.co.uk.

Why are you carrying out the research? What purpose?

Is for my own purposes (ie I am not working for a company), firstly because there are no real stats out there on female cyclists, and secondly to inform a potential project creating resources for female cyclists eg website/magazine/publication.

So you are doing it for pleasure? no purpose other than to collect some statistics/information on female cyclists?

Is it for marketing purposes? I bet it is..

I assume Cathy wants to set up a website for female cyclists or maybe sell the results of her survey to a publisher. Nothing wrong with either, although my heart does sink a bit at marketing jargon like 'inform a potential project creating resources'. I suppose if she said "find out what female cyclists need" no-one would have any idea what she meant.

Slightly off-topic, but I find that Manchester Airport now has a Head of Customer Experience. When you are relegated from a traveller to a customer having an experience, you can be sure your requirements are going to be right at the bottom of the list.

Its quite honest in why, its gathering info for marketing mainly as does most surveys. I have completed it, as i might win a prize! Have you got any prizes Cathy?

Sorry to disappoint you but I am not planning on selling this research to anyone. Quite apart from anything else I fail to see why anyone in their right mind would be willing to purchase the results of an amateur 10-question survey run on a free internet survey provider.

I can offer the prize of what would be some genuinely interesting findings on women's cycling habits.

Thank you to both of you for your support in this.

Good point, that was pretty jargon-tastic wasn't it? Apologies. I am interested to find out what, if anything, female cyclists feel may be useful to them.

Also Steve if you are going to view me with such suspicion - why are you on a thread entitled 'calling female cyclists....?'

It sounds interesting.

I'm not a woman, so won't be able to take part, but do let me know the results of your findings.

Hmmmmm, everyone on here is sooooooo suspicious. Cathy is definitely not selling the research. I know, because I shall also be involved in the potential project.

Although obviously if anyone really is dumb enough to want to pay for an amateur survey, I'm open to offers. And btw WW, I've just cleared out your bank account using only my incredible spamming power..... x

Unfortunately the forum, as it has become more popular, has started to attract a certain amount of spam. Hence some of the longer standing members of the forum regarding such threads as this with some suspicion. It is not unreasonable for the members to want to protect their forum, sorry if this comes across as being rude, it is not really intended to be...
