BTW one thing to be aware of is that the frame clearance around the tyres is very tight, the largest I've managed to get on mine is a 25c (it's supplied with 23c's). Also because of this you can't get a set of full mudguards on, but these fit really nicely and are quite in-expensive:

What does keep it going mean? All bikes will require maintenance and replacement parts. Chains, cassettes, chainwheels, brake pads, tyres will all need replacing as they wear, wheels need truing, bar tape gets tatty etc...

I seen a bh prisma in go outdoors for 650 full carbon plus 105 spec so if you can stump the extra thats a deal for that sort of money

Aren't they just a big shed rather than a bike shop?

They've got into bikes in quite a big way over the past year and have just rolled out their 'cycling concept stores' across the chain, which includes installing specially bike-trained staff. They're competing with Decathlon and Halfords rather than the specialist bike retailers, but there's nothing wrong with that in principle and their bikes look decent value.

Given that Decathlon is now turning out some pretty decent bikes, I can't see why Go Outdoors shouldn't be expected to do the same.

The guy I dealt with in Go Outdoors was very knowledgeable, he was a keen cyclist himself. I wish I had taken his advice to buy the Calibre Stat, as at the time it was going for £450 with a 10% discount in the sale next day, so a total of just over £400 for a Tiagra equipped road bike with Shimano wheels. Problem was that I didn't realise what a bargain it was at the time, otherwise I would have bitten their hand off!
