Hi,

I am currently riding a Dawes Giro 200 road bike from 2005 and it has become hopelessly unreliable. I am looking to buy myself a new road bike and am looking at the Calibre Acheive. Has anyone heard of it or know if it is any good in the long term?

Thanks.

Yeah, they are go outdoors own brand bikes. I'm trying to find out if there own brand is any good as on the whole own brand stuff tends to be rubbish.

Looks good but I am looking for a 56/58cm frame and it is in the wrong location (i'm in Bournemouth). I was trying to avoid buying second hand again as every time I have done so, I have ended up having to spend an extra £200 to keep it going.

I also found a BH Sphene Claris road bike on go outdoors (http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/bh-sphene-claris-road-bike-p343637) that is £40 cheaper and is a bit lighter but has Claris instead of Sora. Would I be better off going for this instead of the Calibre Acheive?

Thanks for all the quick replies!

I don't know if this is your size but £349 for an entry level Giant Defy is a great deal. Add 'save6' for another £6 off plus 3% off via quidco. Size large only available.

The Giant Defy looks good but I don't want to buy online as I am going to want to try before I buy.
Can you do so properly at go outdoors? Aren't they just a big shed rather than a bike shop?
Have you tried local retailers, might cost a bit more but you'll get some pre and post sale service

I've searched everywhere I could think of for feedback but haven't found much.
I doubt they've sold many to enthusiasts who frequent forums. There were some buyer reviews on the website, probably the best you'll get. The magazines etc won't review.

There's this http://road.cc/content/buyers-guide/167855-go-outdoors-road-bikes-buyer-s-guide-calibre-range. And
http://www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/family/tried-tested-cycling-essentials-you-4501661

And https://roadcyclinguk.com/gear/btwin-triban-520-road-bike-review.html

I assume you've looked at and ridden it. Given you want to buy new and local I doubt you'll get anything better for under £400

I've had a Calibre Achieve for a year now and have no complaints whatsoever. If you can get over the fact that it doesn't have a big brand name on it (Giant, Specialized, Cube etc) I actually think it's a good deal when you look at the overall spec ... Sora groupset, FSA stems and handlebars, Selle Royal saddle, carbon forks, etc.

Although I couldn't find any reviews of the Achieve before I bought mine I did find a review of the next model up (Calibre Stat) which I believe uses the same frame (so I was told by the bike guy in Go Outdoors) the only difference being it has Tiagra gearing and Shimano wheels:

http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/category/bikes/road/product/review-calibre-stat-15-49081/

Also at the moment Go Outdoors have a sale on, spend over £350 and get £35 off, so buy the Achieve at £349.97 and spend another £0.03 on something (buy an inner tube or something?) and you can get it for~£315.00 .... a bargain in my books!

Ok, looks great then. Thanks for the advice. I will try to buy it this weekend and get the extra money off.

I will be trying it out when I go to buy it. Thanks for the advise.
