Cadence sensor issue

Wondered if this had been covered before.
I've purchased a wireless speed and cadence computer. The speed sensor is no problem, however the cadence sensor is, because of the distance between the pedal and the mounting for the sensor. The chain stays are slightly tapered leaving a large gap between them and the sensor on the pedal crank. The gap is approximately one inch.

The bike is a BH Race One.

Has anybody come across this before and resolved it?
Thanks
Juan

Thanks Steve.

Perhaps I should have mentioned the sensor unit is one piece i.e. the cadence and the speed sensors are housed together, so not sure if I can do that, as I won't pick up the wheel magnet. Thanks for your input tho'.

What's the model/make of your computer? Do you have photos?

That may help people to answer your query.

Yes, good idea ttcycle

It's a Cateye Strada Wireless.

[Pic attached, hopefully ].
As you can see there's quite a gap between the pedal and sensor.

So far, I've tried
  • Fixing it above and below the chain stay (turning it upside down)
  • adjusting the unit via the screw in the middle as the instructions suggest to open the unit a little
  • throwing the bike in a ditch (similar to Alberto Contador).... no seriously
Other than fixing some form of block to the pedal, or buying a wired version I'm running out of ideas.

Any suggestions welcomed.
Thanks
Juan

Yep, exactly as the instructions say.
The cadence sensor is in the larger block on my model, as opposed to yours which is in the 'arm'.

I don't have this model but are you able to push it towards the pedal at all through adjustments etc?

The simplest option is a longer magnet!

I fitted a strong 10 mm x 10 mm magnet on to the pedal axle, inside the crank arm socket. The magnet holds itself in place

This worked well and solved a similar issue.

You may not have this model, but it's the same sensor. When you loosen the senosr screw you can move each sensor independantly, so you can move the speed sensor closer to the wheel magent while also moving the cadence sensor closer to the crank arm magnet.

BTW, you did say you have the Cateye Strada Wireless, this should have a fork mounted speed sensor and doesn't do cadence, the sensor in your pic is the same one as the Cateye Double Wireless. Where did you buy it from?

Sorry, it's the Cateye Double Wireless, and I've tried the adjustment with the sensor screw but can't get near the 3mm requirement.
