I need a new shifter for my XRF-5 hub (busted the old twistgrip one whilst trying to mod/fit it to drop bars). And saw this shiny new one.

However the blurb says it is for the 'wide range' ratio hubs (eg XRF-5(W))

Anyone know if the cable-pull is the same for the 'new'-Wide and Classic ratio hub? And will it work on my Classic ratio XRF-5? Or if it can be 'made' to work on one?

Hi,

Did you ever find out whether these are compatible, I am in the same situation.

Thanks,

yep, as far as I'm aware the only new one that differs is the fixed gear 3 speed, all the rest the cable pull has remained a constant. It just moves the indicator rod in and out, the actual gear ratios are decided by the internal cog ratios.

On the old SA 3-speeds the shifter also locked the indicator rod in the right position for each gear. Is this the same with newer SA hubs?

As far as I know, I had an SRF3 and have messed about with old AWs, both 3 speeds, and the only difference I'm aware of is that it's no longer possible to slip into 'neutral' with the new ones.
