There's been a mass migration of Painted Ladies from Africa this year. It happens every few years. There were reports of literally thousands of them on the North East coast a few weeks ago. They have an amazing migration strategy where they basically take about six generations to travel first north and then south back to Africa.
It seems to have been a relativley good year for butterflies, perhaps as a result of last year's hot weather.
I have a border of devil's bit scabious which is loved by all the pollinators. I've had a huge amount of enjoyment watching butterflies, bees and hoverflies on it recently.
