Bullhorns, how wide are yours?

For those that ride bullhorns as well as regular drops, do you have the bullhorns the same width or narrower?

38cm seems to be really popular on the horns and I don't know if it's just a fashion thing or not. I'm of below average stature and usually ride on the hoods of 42cm drops so am deciding between 38/42cm bullhorns you see...

425mm drops CtC & 400mm bullhorns CtC. I must say that the bullhorns do feel a little narrow after riding on the drop bars.

Go to your LBS and get yourself measured. Hold a pair (are handlebars really a plural item?) out in front of you and get someone to tell you how straight your arms are.

I don't like having my arms out wide as I find myself on most drop bars, so my bullhorn bars are relatively narrow. Can't remember exact measurements though.

I personally find anything less wide than my shoulders kind of makes me feel unbalanced. My drops are 440mm on both bikes, if I went for any other handle bar this would be my minimum. I've seen kids on hybrids where their arms kind of make a "v" shape due to the narrowness... Its looks uncomfortable

I ride the same size drops as bullhorn/base bars. Could have probly coped with one size down, but as I see it, riding bullhorns full time is like riding on the hoods, so buy the same size. To double check your size, hold them accross your chest, and the ends should poke your shoulders where they pivot.

You have to remember that for the most part bullhorns are TT bike base bars. You'd only use the bulls when you want to ride out of the saddle. For this reason bulls to be wide enough to use as an arm leaver but narrow to reduce the aero impact as you should be on the aeros as much as possible.

I'll ride the flats for the most part. Not really bothered about the aero properties, just want the hand position available as I won't have hoods.
Going for 38s because that's what I can find in the bars I like, ever the practical solution

I use the same size as drops, but my bullhorns are drops that I couldn't get on with!
I took a hacksaw to them and fitted 'cross levers. Luvverly on the SS they are too

Mine are 420mm but I haven't fitted them to a bicycle yet!

Here for rides.
420mm charge slices and will be the first bit of kit on the new build to go. Too narrow. Drops, meet hacksaw. Hacksaw meet drops.

That sounds like a much better way to measure than my idea. I shall try this!

I wasn't very clear, I was talking about why bullhorns tend to be narrower than drops

Ah, I get it. I figure for non-aero riding 420 will be fine as I'm happy on 420 drops.
I'll just pick what I like most then, cheers all.
