B'Twin Triban 500 SE from Decathlon for £299. People say they are very good value for money.

I was gonna say the same thing but then I looked it up. 51cm is it's smallest size which I think would be too big.
I ride a 48cm which is a little on the big side for me at 5'4".

yes easy to swap but if using new parts i think it will cost more than £100 , i would try it before handing over £ notes

@Cycleops Good shout on those. It was a thread on here about the Carrera vanquish that set my thinking. People were saying his bike was worth 125-150 and it looked like a nice bike for that kind of money. Quite like the Carrera and Giant you found.

Be careful , halfords sizing means the carrera listed as a 51 will be its real seat tube measurement , worth checking with the seller.my boardman is listed as a 51.5 but the top tube is 54 cm
