Aw bugger, the rear wheel on my Dawes Sonoran has buckled again - probably due to my weight

But what is it that fails? Is it the spokes or the rims?

That's the third time in as many years. Whilst my LBS will true the wheel I'm thinking that in the long term I might be better off upgrading. Can anybody suggest suitable upgrade?

I don't think i've ever managed to get a wheel to last 3 years!

Having to true a wheel once a year doesn't sound bad to me.

A combination of both. A rim or a spoke on its own isn't particularly strong, it's the build quality that has the most effect on the longevity of the wheel.

Like RedBike says, 3 years is good going, but if you fancy upgrading, find a good wheelbuilder near you and have a chat about suitable replacements.
