Arrived today....Any ideas if I can convert the STI lark to downtube shifters...Done it fine ok on the Dawes Audax 2006 but there are no braid addons on the downtube on the new bike.

Surely there must be some sort of conversion kit.

I don't care that much for all that junk under the handlebars and in the brake handles and it must be a bugger to maintain.

The general idea at the moment is I'm going to put the Triban 500 on the trainer and release the Audax for road duties.Although at a later date I may use the Triban out on the road also.

Wanted to edit thread title...bugger.

The sti levers are not difficult to maintain. But if you must is this any good? https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/gear-spares/origin8-down-tube-shift-adapter-286318mm/

I say try them for a few hundred miles and you will hopefully come to like them. Maintenance is really not an issue - once setup they'll work flawlessly until the cable stretches a little and that is easy to take care of.

It's more to do with if I use it for commute.I prefer bull horn handlebars after a certain incident in Stratford in 2010 where I nearly hit a Range Rover that crossed in front of me from the other side of the road and I was on the drops and couldn't get near the brakes in time. Also useful to be "quick on the draw" for the unexpected.

The CS 3 is full of unexpected surprises also and when you come up against boris bike idiots on mobile phones you know you've got a tough job on your hands.

Why not use 'bar end' shifters in the bullhorns, I've got that set-up on my TT bike with interupter brake levers mounted 'backwards' (nipple in adjuster barrel)

works extremely well (BTW the extender mount is for a double headed lighting system cos I rode this at night a lot)

With the modern sti lever you don't ride in the drops most of the time - they are designed so your hands rest nicely on top of the hoods so you can always brake easily from there

I had them before but I didn't really like the position that much.
