Yes, just like the drink xx(
I can see the visual appeal to kids. Shame riding this will put them off cycling for life.

these BSO things are secretly imported by the big petroleum companies, anyone thinking of using their car less is put off within 5 minutes of riding a BSO and soon goes back to driving and buying petrol/diesel.

Holy crap you just opened up an even deeper level of conspiracy theory, i like it.

My god Sir I do belive you may very well be correct on this issue lol, but I always thought it was something to do with the lead or other heavy substance they filled the tubing with to slow riders of these machines down with not thinking it was to get one back in ones gas guzzeling metal box again.I for one am now very glad that I disposed of the BSO I had lol.

I disagree that riding a BSO will put people off cycling. When I retired I decided that I would return to cycling and with a very low budget I bought a cheapo bike and to be perfectly honest the only thing I can complain about is some of the comments people make about it. I now cycle about 3000 miles per year and have made a number of camping excursions on what I call my 'Zimmer Frame'. I also have a very nice Hugh Porter road bike which I admit is a far superior machine and I love riding it, but my old 'Zimmer is the one which does the work.
I would be interested to know when a BSO becomes a budget bike and at what price a budget bike becomes a starter etc.

A budget bike doesn't have to be a BSO, it depends which corners they cut and how they cut them. A cheap bike is not necessarily a BSO!

A BSO is a bike that starts to fall apart soon after purchase and can't be easily maintained.

gripshifters anyone that change gear every time you turn the bars even though your hands are nowhere near them! had that on one BSO along with single pivot calliper brakes with stamped 1mm sheet metal arms that had more flex than the brake cables themselves!

All the hardware on a BSO is substandard, at least here in the States. Some of the nuts and bolts may just as well be made of cardboard. Magna and some other makes are made of aluminum, but then have a heavy, heavy bottom bracket you could anchor a sailboat to. Same stamped metal brakes people like Huffy and Murray and Magna have been foisting on a disappointed public for years. Better hie to the LBS, and that right soon.
