As asked, posting this in here for my winter project. This bike used to belong to a friends brother who unfortunately died and the bike got stuck in his shed for 6/7 years till he offered it to me.

I am new to cycling from teenager and the last bicycle mechanics I did was swapping a BMX onto a Grifter frame after I snapped the down tube back in about 1983.

I have had loads of motorcycle restoration experience mainly on old air cooled 70s yamaha 2 strokes so hopefully this will stand me in good stead.

Here she is last night before I stripped her down some more.

So far I every thing bar the head set and the cables off the bike. It was surprising easy as behind all the rust was a well greased and lubed bike. Mick (the previous owner) used to love his bike so you can see upto a point he maintained it pretty well. After breaking the initial bond of the rust everything came apart nicely.

So far identity wise :

Weimann drilled Brake levers
Weimann 600 brakes
Raleigh bar post (no markings on the bars found yet)
Laprade SR seat post.
Vetta VSA saddle
Raleigh super custom crankarm 9/16th x 20t
Campagnolo gear shifters and derailleur (still looking for more markings)
Frame no WA 3000619

So looking on here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raleigh_Bicycle_Company#Serial_numbers

I think I am right in saying it was frame 619 built in Worksop in January 1980?

They look like Maillard hubs, and by the looks of them, Weinmann Alesa rims. I rebuilt a friends rear wheel which was from about the same period. And that rear mech is going to look neat once it's had a polish.

Nice project you've got there, and great pics too:thumbsup:

Have the exact same drive train on my '82 Holdsworth (8spd) and it works a treat. More than that I can't help!

The 3rd digit is the year of manufacture so 1973 or 1983............... I'd hazard a guess at a Raleigh frame 1983

The top tube guides, under BB cables and short dropouts also place it in the 80's. As does the kit attached to the frame

The frame is a classy item as the builder has removed the mudguard eyes from the droputs. Always a good sign  from my hazy memory looks loke a Record Ace 12 or Competition 12

Have a look at the above thread and see if anthing matches..........

At a guess I'd say Worksop 73, if it was an 83 I think the fork crown would be different as they mainly used sloping crown forks on the high end models.
It is though a hand-brazed 531 Worksop frame  very nice.
