I have Crane ping bells, in two different sizes, and find them very loud.
The feeble bell for the current Brompton brake lever actually seems more audible to pedestrians than I expected. They respond to it about as often as they do with a bigger, louder, bell, anyway - once you've taken out the ones with headphones and the wilfully ignorant.
