soaked it again, in a bucket, stuck a tennis ball between the rails and the top, bound the sides into shape by winding some course hemp string round and round the whole length of the saddle from nose to the wide bit, tied it off, left it in the airing cupboard for a few days, took string off, removed ball, proofhide'd it. The wings were back vertical and were thus stiffening the while thing. Put a bit of tension in,comparing with another broken-in saddle all the time. took a lot more than the legendary 1/4 turn at which the pundits will tell you the saddle will self-destruct. Have ridden it plenty since. It's fine.[/quote]

Christ on a crutch, why not just buy a bloody saddle that doesn't self destruct when it gets wet? It's not like we live in a country renowned for the infrequency of rain or anything....

Ahh, what you need is obviously the Sheldon Brown "REAL MAN" saddle

Personally, I'll stick with a Charge Spoon, but YAMV*

I have one of those on my tourer while the Brooks is temporarily off. Very good it is, but I start to notice that my backside is not as comfortable as usual after 20 miles, and after 30 I'm longing for my Brooks to return!

Anyone got a suggestion as to how to get that paint off the leather?

Or you paint the whole saddle white......... ^_^

I think it would be better than trying to scrape the stuff off. I presume that the paint is ordinary gloss, and from the colour density I'd guess its one coat.

It's only a cosmetic problem, but I'd rather get rid fo it
White spirit on a cotton bud: you should be able to take the top of it enough for black boot polish to disguise it.

Just ride it. Surely the constant thigh rub will wear it off. Keep riding
