Broken Shimano FH-RM35 Centerlock Disc

Hi guys, I posted a while back about resistance problems with the rear wheel/hub, well I took it to Halfords (as I have a service plan with them) and they saw to it, saying that the hub was only greased on one side. they greased it up and off I went. Well, i noticed the free wheel was slipping, so finally had time today to take it apart to have a look and (what I thought) clean, reassemble and re-grease) to find that there is severe damage to the ball race, and what appears to be the hub too! I know I'm not going to be able to prove it was Halfords putting it back together wrong that was the problem. Anyway, my bike has a Shimano FH-RM35 Centerlock Disc, which i am really struggling to find online (so I can price it, buy it and not get ripped off by Halfords).

Anyone have any ideas? I'm still searching - does it have another name?:

Cheers!

Yours is not a common Shimano freehub. If I were you I would get a good local bike shop to ring up Madison. You shouldn't be charged more than the £17.99 for it if it is available. If not you might be better off getting an alternative hub (with more commonly available parts) or new wheel.

From your first picture you appear to be running on only one pawl (ratchet) one is installed upside down and one is missing all together! IME theses are not serviceable units so god only knows what Hellfrauds did to get it apart and 'service' it?!?!?!

The remains of your burgered freehub will unscrew from the hub body by inserting a large allen key (10mm?) into the splined hole the axle goes through and unscrewing it anti-clockwise (normal thread) This allows a complete new (sealed) free hub to be installed and the axle rebuilt then away you go.

It is often as cheap or cheaper to buy the entire hub assembly just for the Freehub. this gives you a full set of spares (axles and bearing are good to have in the tool kit.

cheers guys, I really want to make Halfords do the job properly, its so dissapointing - I really want to be out in this weather!

I originally bought the bike from chain reaction, but theyve been rubbish as well (untrued wheel), sigh.

is the rest of f the hub OK? if so then all you need to do is reassemble it with a new freehub - the link I posted above is the correct one for your hub.

If you buy a new hub you'll still need to get it fitted which will entail stripping all the spokes off the wheel and rebuilding it

What I don't get is the freehub has broken in two. The whole assembly should have come off. Did you use a 10mm Allen key, or did the freehub just fall off without tools.

It just fell away with no tools, basically as soon as I took off the free wheel cogs, and the 2 nuts on the axle, it just disintegrated, bearings everywhere etc.

They have no stock.

If you get a replacement hub you may want to ensure they have the same flange dimensions (and not just the same diameters) or the existing spokes may have wrong lengths. Also what you linked to is also 6 bolt not centrelock. Unless the non-drive side bearing race is also fubared, why not just replace the freehub (if Madison has stock)?

To me, it is inconceivable that a Shimano freehub's parts can fall out without real concerted surgery - as such I suspect someone broke into it and made a dog's dinner out of it. Shimano freehubs are not serviceable officially and in practice.

Hmmm so more like they really botched it when they opened it up then?

Hopefully this will fit, even if they just take parts from it? the disc side seems fine.

I've had a look at this in more detail tonight.

This SHIMANO TECHdoc gives the code for the part you want as Y3TE98050 (item 9 on the diagram) but googling this doesn't show any suppliers with the part in stock. As has already been suggested, Madison are the UK Shimano importer and looking on their website shows THE PART for £18 so if they have stock then that would be the best source.
