Yes, this is a very good point. Not just the router but the modem itself. Some customers who have been with virgin media have older modems that can't handle 10 meg, this is unlikely but not impossible. If you know what modem you're using I can look it up.

Col, just do a speedtest. They aren't the be all and end all but the only other fairer way is to download a demo or some file off a virgin media server.


Its the same box we have had all the time,im guessing they know what box we have as they said over the phone it didnt need changing,cheers

They told my folks the same thing. The maximum it'll do is 7. I am not saying they are out right wrong but has been known to happen.

Just checked on top10-broadband.co.uk and I'm less than 1km from my telephone exchange but can only get up to 6.5 meg - which is about right from my tests - 5 plus meg...boo hoo !!!

When they do upgrade it you're going to be getting some pretty fast speeds off ADSL at less than a km unless you're aluminium. Here are most of the exchanges in South Manchester and when they are getting upgraded to ADSL2+ through BT

Iv done a speed test and im getting 9987 kbps and the dail hit the redline for 10 meg,the router says it can send 300mbps so i think its sorted and fine,cheers all for the help.
