I usually get them to price match their own web price and then get my 10% B.C discount.

That is what I do, ask for price match then 10% off. No quibbles or problems from the staff.

When i got my credit card statement, they had refunded the price i paid + 10%.

Yes that is right. The discount is logged into the till as a voucher, any refunds are at the full price as they cannot reissue the voucher. I have had this a few times and Halfords staff confirmed this is the case.
