Probably been discussed many times before -

but post clocks going back/ dark nights - thought it would be good if people had the opportunity to discuss their new winter kit...

so......

I also like the flare.

Some others seem just as bright when viewed from the head on angle, but the flare is bright from anywhere behind, and the flash mode is good too. Its not just on-off-on-off but on-pulse-on-pulse.

I have a Magicshine MJ-818 it has 2 flashing modes and a steady mode and is really bright.

I do like the light but i keep looking at adding an Exposure Flare aswell.

I don't know about brightest, but I have recently bought this

revolution 180

and reckon it's cracking value for money (even though I lost the first one!)

Cycling plus recently did a light review and gave 4 stars to an RSP one at £24.99 which looks very like this. This could well be a rebadged one.

Smart Lunar R1 would have to be a contender for the brightest ?

The 1/2 watts are pretty unpleasant to ride behind - a 1 watt would be a real horror show.

PBK were knocking the Smart 1/2 Watts out at a £5/ea the other day. The switches may not be great, but a bit of vaseline usually cures the water ingress problem and at that price I decided it was just too good to miss. Offer didnt last long though. Maybe my bulk order made them think twice

Magicshine MJ818's - awesome. My old clubmate wouldn't ride behind me this week. Pulled up next to me at a set of lights and said "WTF are they" :becool:

I've also got the Revolution light and it's pretty good value. It's modelled on Cateye's LD110 - which retails around £30.

It's not the brighest, but it's as bright as anyone truly needs. If drivers miss it, then they must be blind.

One thing to bear in mind when looking for the brightest...

Some lights are very bright when looking at them head on, but the brightness drops away as the angle increase.

What I like about the Flare is that is remains very visable, even from the side and beyond.
I usually have it set to pulse during the day to attact attention, or steady at night in urban areas as I would think the pulse would be too annoying and distracting in close proximity in traffic. If I go for a night ride in the country I have it set to pulse so that it will get attention from faster moving traffic further away..

+1 on the magicshine as it has a major LED and the battery pack ..

For a light powered by AAA batteries i add another vote for the smart R2, might be 2 1/2 watt rather than 1 x1 watt that the r1 has but the way the lenses are set up make it brighter when i have compared them.
