I bought these for £4 but noticed there’s no surround at the top or will the hood fit down and cover the holes? What Shimano levers are they?
I’ve circled the area with a colour.

The levers will fill the gaps when brake cables are fitted and tensioned.
No idea what model they are.

They look like super SLR 400 but no surround. Either very old early ones or missing surrounds. I can see 400 stamped on the metal in the picture.

Shimano brakes have the release for opening rim calipers to make room for the tyre at the caliper.
That gap gives the lever somewhere to go when opening the release gives an extra 8 mm or so of slack cable.

They just look different to all the ones online.

Sugru putty might be a fix, but you paid £4. Good levers TBH. I had similar on my Fixie (but with the plastic trim). Even the old early 90's levers had the trim on levers upto 600/Ultergra - DA got polished alloy.

For £4 for immaculate lever's I'd let it go, and pop in something like Sugru to till in the top bit, or anyone got a 3d printer.....
