What do you mean you tried? Is the cable frayed and you can't get it through the hole?

perhaps if you could explain , WHY the cable doesn't go in, then more help will be offered , simply stating , it doesnt go in, doesn't help
Have you completely removed the nut and checked whether there is a hole in the bolt thread that the cable can slide through?
