@ScotiaLass yours are the all in one type, replace the whole unit, rubber & peg that goes into the V brake arm.
These are cartridge - replace pad only - ones, you can see the rubber pad piece slides into the metal body of the brake from the back, it has a blocked off front end to keep it from whizzing straight out again. The cotter pin is optional IME. They're Clarks brakes, not the very best but decent enough for the boys old MTB.
