Here we are:

Q: Do you fancy a bit of mixed martial arts?
A: No way man, thats just embarrassing. I don't mind watching it, but if I put a pair of gloves on and a mixed martial arts guy came in the ring, he'd be useless. I'd just have to take my time and dodge him for a bit. If he grabs my leg, I'm gonna knock him out aren't I? It wouldn't even be a contest

Arbitrary that is the most useless statement that there ever was!
Now I will tell you why...it's simple body physics.
If your leg is grabbed your either standing but off balance or your on the floor...in which case how can you possible have the inertia, momentum, balance or power to return a blow worthy of knocking someone out?
If you can work that out then I'll agree....but I think you will find it 100% impossible.
Sort it out mate...your just on a big wind up to cheese people off....you making me laugh more than anything...which I find amusing more than anything.

Twenty five pages , keep it up and you'll soon beat girls in lycra shorts.

It's now beginning to remind me of a sketch on The Fast Show where Charlie Whitehouse was discussing animals and fighting, "what about two stoats against a badger," etc.

Arbitrary can be very funny indeed, but then sometimes he comes over as a bit of a twat, slightly disturbed or perhaps simply a post-pub poster... maybe all of these. He's certainly got his kicks on this one anyway...

Excellent stuff! Will he be prepared to put his money where his mouth is?
I think it would be interesting to see him in the octagon with some UFC type fighters. Maybe he could dance with Chuck Liddell and a few others.
Kudos to him if he does indeed knock them out.

Notice how he says gloves and ring. His environment.

Perhaps it's bonj's alter ego. My infrequent visits suggest that bonj, in the face of relentless common sense by other posters, seems to have slightly moderated his strange 'I must demonstrate my idiocy to all on the forum' urge, so maybe he's missing all that.

Either way, with the evidence on this thread, Abitrary is clearly going all out to take on that mantle.

Just having googled Chuck Liddell aka. Iceman, he looks a good couple of stone heavier than Calzaghe. Would Liddell be so cocky if he saw Mike Tyson climbing in the ring?

And what is an octagon when it's at home? This is boxing, not snooker.

Ok. What about George St Pierre or Matt Hughes then?
Maybe even Bas Rutten (even though he has retired)?

You don't know what an octagon is? ;)

A fighting area with 8 sides used in MMA bouts.

Bloody hell

Is this still going on?

Arbritary, do you know why boxers wear gloves?

This is going somewhere so stay with me

Without gloves you cant go punching someone in the head time and time again to knock them out, you will break all the bones in your hand and you will not be fighting again, its newtons law

You are making an unrealistic comparison between some martial arts which came about through the need to be able to kill on the battle field and a sport

A sport which uses set rules and protective equipment

If you go back to the second world war, soldiers were taught to fight dirty, plenty of them could box but that doesnt cut it if you are rolling around on the floor struggling with someone who wants to kill you back

You use your elbows, you knees, you bite, gouge, choke, stab

Queensbury rules will earn you a knee in the bollocks and a stamp on the head, followed by death, the boxing versus martial arts thing has been done to death, some martial arts are sports some are not, the ones that arent provide the basis of realistic hand to hand fighting, even then its ten percent technique and ten percent agression

End of.

A policeman friend of mine explaining what happened when you arrested a fighting drunk, said, "Sit on his head, but make sure that the biting bits are facing away from you - otherwise you will get a nasty shock while writing your notebook up."

If i did go out then Lee,as i said, his size hid his power, and his speed was in reality, not films, was extraordinary. He was a brawler in his youth, and changed and trained in more and more effective ways ,as he grew up.And even applied science to his methods of dealing with an attacker in the streets. If i had the choice, then lee would get it,but Nazeem would be a good choice too.

When I say 'wing man' I don't just mean backup for potential rucks.. i mean, you know, chat the ugly mate up and that... someone to have a laugh with.

You'd honestly take Bruce Lee over Prince Nazeem for a bit of a laugh?

Yeah, then you wouldn't have to listen to "look at me I'm so wonderful, blah blah blah. I'm the king, I'm so cool," all night.

I misunderstood your question there,i thought you meant as help in a spot. But going on your real meaning, again i would choose lee, because his knowledge in the MA scene, and its history,i find very interesting,in comparison, boxing is relatively new,so i think i would be listening intently ,while he just talked.

To settle a long and simple argument, I have googled the appropriate names and the following applies:

Results 1 - 10 of about 488,000 hits for Joe Calzaghe. (0.06 seconds)

Results 1 - 10 of about 69,400,000 hits for Martial arts. (0.12 seconds)

Results 1 - 10 of about 692323,4566560,000 hits for Noodleys Gran. (0.2 seconds)

So Noodleys Gran has the most hits, is therefore the winner!

I spent over 10 years boxing to a reasonable level - A.B.A finals etc. and then switched for several years to full contact karate

In my opinion if the martial art is full contact and not just klicker then if they are a similar standard & weight the martial artist would win everytime - i can't tell you how many times i received kicks to the head and lower limbs before landing any punches and spent a couple of years practice to catch up

also in a real fight (on the street) a punch would count for almost nothing unless delivered in the correct spot - take a knee or kick under the jaw and you WILL be out cold
