I can only reiterate what has been said above.
I had exactly the same thoughts when I bought my road bike after riding a hybrid - "Oh my goodness, this is twitchy, hard to ride, can't get comfortable on it, how the heck do you reach the gears / brakes safely, I've just wasted a fortune on it" - in fact I posted something along those lines on here.
But I took the advice to get the set up right, which in my case was getting the saddle sorted. Trust me, you'll think it's too high but you should only just be able to touch the floor with the saddle at the right height. If you're stopping get used to slipping off the saddle to put your foot down properly.
It took a couple of weeks of adjustments and getting out riding to get it right and start really enjoying it, but the road bike is my 1st choice bike now (total mileage so far this year 1,750 miles, with 1,494 of those on the road bike).
Even now if I go straight from the hybrid to the road bike it feels odd for the first few minutes (last week the road bike was in being fettled, so I rode the hybrid down to the shop, left that there for some other work to be done on it and rode the road bike home) - too high up, super reactive to the slightest input, until I'd done half a mile or so.
Trust me, it gets better and when it does you'll have a big silly grin on your face from all the fun you're having.
And if it doesn't, I'll look after your new bike for you...
