Well after asking you guys for advice on buying a bike last November, I finally popped into my LBS today and bought myself a bike!

I was after a general purpose, robust bike with drop bars (was on a MTB on holiday last October and hated only having one riding position). I talked to the LBS in December and decided that the Genesis Croix de Fer would suit my purpose and budget.

Needless to say I'm pretty stoked to finally have got round to buying it. They're doing a "pre-delivery check" and fitting all the add-ons I wanted, so don't get it until Saturday!

Just want to thank you guys for keeping me enthusiastic about getting back on a bike during those cold winter months (when I knew if I had bought the bike back then, I would never have gone out in that weather!)

Looks like a decent bike. Keep us posted on your progress. You can fit mudguards on that bike; so no weather excuses!

If you fancy taking it for a test ride there's a group of us doing a ride round the Linlithgow area on Sunday.

Thanks for the offer, I'm on-call this weekend so I can't afford to be too far from home but I certainly hope to be able to join you guys for a ride at some point. If for no other reason to see you all disappear into the distance as I lag further and further behind!

LOL yeah I know. I'm sure I'll get some fitted at some point but until I know for sure that the cycling bug has bitten I think I'll more than likely be a fair-weather cyclist....

Looks good - but I've a question. It the pic in Randochaps link, i can be the bolts for two bottle cages and similar looking bolts on the underside of the tube. They're too far apart to be for a bottle (and too close to the front wheel). What are they for?

Presume they're for 'crud catcher' type 'mudguards'. Could be wrong though

I thought that - but do they could with a standard fitting? Bottle bosses are a standard size. I wouldn't have thought crud catches were a standard size - but admit I don't actually know.

I must admit I never noticed them when I was in the shop! I was thinking more along the lines of SKS raceblades if I ever put mud guards on it, I doubt I'd be travelling through that kind of mud on a regular basis to warrant anything else.
