For the MegaExo chainset, you'll need this...
http://www.chainreac...x?ModelID=58234

BB4000, check it is the right one but i'm sure it is. You can pick them up cheaper, search ebay etc and other online retailers.
Be aware, Omega is just one of their chainsets in the MegaExo range. Dont get one for a Gossamer for example, it has a different axle size.
That BB isnt the best as far as longevity is concerned, it always as seen as moderately weak.

Were you aware there was a problem ?

If the bearings are wearing out quickly then I'd look at just buying some new bearings and putting them in the shell yourself.

It's a bit fiddly and you may need to cobble together a few tools.

Some guy asked Wiggle if this could be done - and they just replied that they don't stock replacement bearings! What a bunch of t******s.

Ive just replaced my mego exo with the shimano 105 equivelent I wished I'd done it sooner I would not bother replacing with an FSA look to shimano or other equivelents. If you post whats on the side of your BB we will be able to advise which one you need as posted above it should say something like BB/4000 also there are twp types of thread make sure you get the right one

I noticed a loudish sort of noise when I stood to climb just last week. The gearing sort of seemed to become poor at roughly the same time, which is why I brought it in tbh - would this be right? - this is what the 'mechanic' told me in Halfords. I got one of those £20 per year care packages and thought I chance them again eventhough the first time I went I wasn't pleased.

Noticed this on the BB - BC1 37"X24T, would that help with ordering a part?

Safe to ride until I get it sorted I take it?

Can I not just get a new BB rather than a whole set? If I did have to go down that route could I change to a standard double rather than a compact with much bother?? (ideally mabye change cassette to 11/28 too)
That is just the BB, two shells, one each side and a nylon tube that sits between the two. AFAIK, thats the only way they come.
Each shell (the black bit with BC1 etc written on it) has a bearing within it, the stock bearings aren't very high quality which is why they dont last very well.

Like accountantpete, ive replaced the bearings in the shells, but it is a faff if you're not a good DIYer. That brings the cost down enormously (and you get much better bearings)

Cheers, a bit above my station thou  Taking it to a very knowledgable mate, hopefully replacing ballbearings might be the height of it.

At £15 its hardly worth replacing the bearings besides without the correct tools you might feck your current bracket up. In any case like I said FSA BB's are pants once you buy this BB you will see the difference in build quality

One thin I cant help you with is the thread I would expect it to be british but cant be certain best bet is to post a pic of your FSA then we would have a better idea of what type of BB you need

BTW the centre plastic bit is nothing more than a spacer

The BB in my post above looks like the BB you need the NM rating is the torque Im sure I'll get lambasted for this but I tighten the bottom bracket by using the BB tool until it wont turn no more then I just nick it up but not any real pressure just like I would fit a pedal

remember there are left and right cups be sure to fit them on the right side

Im pretty sure you should order the 68 mill Britishis thread but ring CR they will confirm

Ive read you can get 13000 more miles out of a shimano than an FSA the shimano certainly feels a lot robust but some people swear by FSA BB's not me Im afraid after my experience.

Took bike to my mate, after about 10 secs he told me the pedal/crank (outer) hadn't been 'banged' in far enough, leaving it a few mill out. Nothing wrong with BB at all, regreased and gears tuned for me. Another fine moment for Halfords

Excellent stuff benny, a good result then and a reminder that LBS's don't always have your best interests at heart, or know what they're doing.

A little tip if you ever get to the stage where you're DIYing it or have the cranks off. There's two opposing pinch bolts on the non drive crank, they clamp the cranks onto the axle. There's a large headed bolt on the end of the crank to tighten it up against the axle. DO NOT tighten this bolt up too much or you'll slowly (or quickly) damage the bearings in the BB.
The idea is (with the pinch bolts slackened) to gently tighten that end bolt up till it takes out any side play in the cranks, just enough to get the right position, then tighten the pinch bolts. That locks everything in position.

It's all academic now, but unless i'm mistaken, the Ultegra BB in the link won't work with MegaExo Omega cranksets...they will i believe with MegaExo Gossamer, they've different axle sizes.
