The nut and whaser method will work but don't underestimate how tight these can be.
When I removed the one on my Raleigh Twenty I broke the first 14mm bolt I tried, bought a quality steel 5/8" bolt and accompanying washers, broke a Chrome Vanadium socket, rounding the bolt head in process and had to resort a huge Stiltson wrench with about a 5 foot bar over the handle and when it went, it had such a loud crack I was convinced I had broken the frame.
After that initial crack it unscrewed by hand
