Hello All,

I am sure there is a simple answer to this!

My carbon road bike has loose bottle mounts on the downtube, and I cannot figure out how to tighten them up? I thought it was the screws that had worked their way loose but it is the actual mounts. It feels like there is a nut behind them and it is just turning on itself when I turn the top.

I suppose I could just use the seat tube mounts, but would like to know if there is an easy way to solve this?

Warranty. And if that doesn't work speak to the guys at Argos Racing cycles in Bristol who are approved finishers and repairers for most of the major manufacturers.

So no simple fix, thanks for the replies. I have sent an email to Specialized as it is 14 months old. will wait and see what they say. It feels like it has maybe made the wholes bigger with the left & right movement. Dunno why but I would be surprised if they offer to repair or replace.

If they don't replace the frame (which isn't entirely beyond the realms of possibility) a repair will involve either replacing the damaged threaded insert(s) or re-bonding it in place with a squirt of resin. It's no biggy.

On metal frames which use a "rivnut" for the bottle cage it is sometimes possible to give them another squeeze with the appropriate tool. You can even use the Q/R on a front hut as substitute tool if you can get enough washers. I wouldn't want to try that on carbon though !

Well as all of above, they said to take it to my nearest Specialized dealer for repair or replacement. Don't know why but I was quite impressed with that, well so far as I have not contacted Evans yet..

I would guess they will have to glue mine, cannot see how they can replace them on a carbon bike? Now the cage is off it has rubbed the frame quite a bit, will report back on what Evans say.

It might be - Spesh might just say, new one !

They don't mess about with warranty, hence they are high on my list for a carbon road bike ! Can't go wrong with a lifetime warranty. Shame some Italian marques don't offer this considering their premiums !
