I like fig rolls, but what's wrong with wholemeal bread and jam sandwiches?

Well, well, well, the plot thickens. Shall we just forget cycling and have a picnic? Jam sandwiches at the ready please!

I wasn't joking.

I wonder how we managed to eat whilst cycling before all this cereal crap at grossly inflated prices hit the market. When I used to do Gloucester to Nottingham and back every weekend back in the 60's I managed it without paying out more for a bit of pasted cereal than a train fare would cost.

No doubt about it, sports people and their money are easily parted.

Another vote for GORP and for fig rolls. On really long rides I will take along a packet of Hartley's jelly and some form of another biscuit (shortbread is good, or French galettes) or flapjack. Instead of that, sometimes bread and a small tin of pate is better - i get a bit tired of all the sweet foods.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound insincere. It sounds like perfect anti-bonk material, but are pretty much staples for a picnic as well which is just perfect!:hungry:

I used to take Decathlon Aptonia bars - especially nougat and the fruit jellies as they were very palatable - not too sweet and the price of normal confectionary, plus a gel or 2 of theirs for extremis.

They seemed to have stopped marketing them over the last few months  and now I am thrown back to Frueslis.

I am not very keen on chocolate as it tends to melt.

Not commenting on boking, per say ;) , but banana-based flapjacks / muffins are ridiculously easy to make and you can throw in raisins etc for a fraction of the cost that the shops will charge you.
