I caught the last 15 mins of SPOTY last night, and i'll admit to my previous comments about it being crass and simplistic. the looks on both Bobby Charlton's and Chris Hoy's face showed to me that it is quite important, at least to the sporting fraternity, and thats' good enough for me.

I wish it was sportsperson instead of personality though.

When Man U won the Champions League in 1999 Charlton was presented with a comemorative medal which he refused to wear, saying the night belonged to the players who won the trophy, not to anyone else.
