buggi said:pps... I am considering getting a Boardman Team (not the carbon one) when the bike to work scheme comes out again at work.
Cubist said:Just to nit-pick, the Team is the Alu version with carbon forks and costs £799.00. Like Buggi said, £200 difference to save 0.5lb, (yes I know it's not carbon....) The equipment levels are pretty good.
The Comp is £650.00, and is a 9spd compact double, with 105/Tiagra. It weighs a porky 19lbs............... Mr Boardman is on record as saying it's a better specc'd bike than the one he won TDF on!
Having said that, I've gone for a Hybrid Pro. (I want to ride all year round and do a bit of touring) which is basically a flat-barred road bike with Avid Elixir discs. I have done a bit of testing, and discovered that the mechanics at my local Halfords are not far off, and anyway I am probably competent enough to check the bike over myself before I ride it.
buggi said:QUICK EVERYONE... GET YOUR ASS TO HALFORD'S IN SOLIHULL... the Team bike is priced at £650...!!!
russmcphillips964 said:Well, my LOC from Halfords has sat with me for 2 weeks.
I have attempted to order a Boardman Road Carbon, and have been told that stock won't be available until mid Sept. Thats a long wait.
Went to another Halfords fairly close to me, which stocks Boardmans, and having read the advice above, i have reserved the display Road bike which is £799. At least I can buy some goodies with the £200 saved.
I did want carbon, but I can see that 250 grammes is not going to make any difference to my run into work.
