Not a major problem if you can adjust the front mech slightly

It would be easier to change the cassette for an 11-28 on the back end and would achieve almost the same ratios. are you after a cyclocross type setup for racing? or do you just want the hills to be slightly more bearable?

as that crank-set is for a MTB you could find yourself running out of gears very quickly; the CB Hybrid range are very quick and pretty much flat-bar racers.

i would personally stick a MTB block on the back and keep the original cranks, or go with what Jon said

Going to be more of a straight bar fast tourer type of bike and needs low gears for loaded hill climbs. Boardman website does not say what rear block is fitted - so will check that out.

Ok if it is for hills then I'd stick with the compact double on the front and change the cassette to an 11-28. If you really wasnt more then again I would consider an 11-34, but you'll need a long cage "MTB-type" rear derailleur and a longer chain. It'll be easier to get up the hills than he new chainset you describe.

The change has been made. Now have the 42/27 at the front and a larger cassette fitted. That just leaves me with a nearly new 50/34 to sell. Will post in For Sale when I've sorted pictures.
