Hello,
I am after some advice on sizing for myself as I am totally confused by all the info I am reading. Halfords were no help at all (not that I expected them to be). I am trying to decide which size is correct for me. I have long legs and long arms for my height so the frame varies wildly from website to website. I want a cyclocross bike to replace my hybrid for touring on (fully loaded camping gear etc) as I prefer the ride of a road bike. My stats are:

Actual Inseam: 87 Cm
Trunk: 61 Cm
Forearm: 36 Cm
Arm: 67 Cm
Thigh: 61.5 Cm
Lower Leg: 55.5 Cm
Sternal Notch: 145 Cm
Total Height: 177 Cm

I have had a Giant Defy 1 in an M for a years and its always given me neck pain once I hit the 40-60 mile mark. I borrowed a 58cm road bike for a while and that seemed pretty nice and I didn't get the pain.

Some have told me I need a custom frame for my proportions buts I cant afford that. I have been looking at a year old boardman CX Team/Comp. As they are reasonably cheap second hand.

Competitive cyclist give me this spec for "The french fit" which suits my style. I prefer I being pretty much level saddle to bars:

Top Tube Length: 55.7 - 56.1 Cm
Seat Tube Range CC: 59.3 - 59.8 Cm
Seat Tube Range CT: 61 - 61.5 Cm
Stem Length: 10.3 - 10.9 Cm
BB Saddle Position: 74.3 - 76.3 Cm
Saddle Handlebar: 56.2 - 56.8 Cm
Saddle Setback: 7 - 7.4 Cm
Seatpost Type: Setback

The boardman CX size charts for this years model (cant find the charts for the 2014 model, are they any different?). I thought I would be a large but the seat tube is only 55.5cm.

Size M L XL
Conventional Seat Tube 53cm 55.5cm 57.5cm
TT Top Tube 555 570 585
ST Seat Tube 530 555 575
HT Head Tube 140 160 175
HA Head Angle 71.5° 72° 72°
SA Seat Angle 73.5° 73° 73°
CS Chain Stay 435 435 435
FO Fork Offset (Rake) 50 45 45
BB Bottom Bracket Drop 65 65 65
Crank Length 175 175 175
Stem Length 100 100 110
Handlebar Width 420 440 440

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

I have a 2014 cx team. Not sure of my actual stats, but I am 183cm and I ride the 55cm ,no probz.

If I remember rightly the cx has a straight top tube so a 58cm frame is the equivalent to a 56cm and so forth. Best to pop into your local store and sit on one as the frames shape between 16 and 15 has not changed.

Ok that's good to know, do you know your inseam by any chance?

Do you mean mean the 58 CX is equal to a 56 or vice versa? I went there last week and sat on a 55.5 and it felt more spacious than my medium defy.

My current bike is a 54cm because it has a sloping top tube but if I were to get a bike with a straight top tube I would need a 52cm as the seat tube is longer (less seat post showing)

Hope that makes sense.
