Boardman CX Comp 2016

It is that time of year again and my Halfords C2W voucher is available to select. I am considering the Boardman CX Comp and getting a rack and guards fitted around the 35c tyres.

Can anyone give their views on the new 2016 model? What is Sora like for commuting. Is it robust and reliable or going to need constantly adjusting?

I looked at the Team version and I am put off by the 1x11 set up. The lack of a second lever on the left side would forever annoy me.

I can go to Halfords or Tredz or a few select dealers who stock giant or specialised if you can find similar for under £600 at RRP. It will be my winter bike and the Boardman suits the bill but open to other options I may have missed.

I have the Boardman road sport with the Claris groupset, to be honest it all works just as it should , it can be a little "clunky" sometimes when changing gears but it does what it is designed to do without regular adjustment or tweaking. The Sora groupset is the next step up from claris giving you nine gears as opposed to eight giving you eighteen gears to play with, I have yet to hear of anyone complaining about the Boardman cx. http://road.cc/content/buyers-guide...no-2016-road-bike-groupsets#Shimano Sora 3500

I have ordered the cx comp through c2w also. As much as I've read in forums about it not being a tourer I do intend to pile some mileage on it. Going from a mountain bike to this will be like going from a Ford Escort to a Lambourghini, at least I hope so. Looking forward to hearing people's views and experiences of the bike.

I have the 2016 CX team. After a lifetime of double and triple Shimano gears I wondered if I would take to the 1x SRAM.

It took less than 5 minutes to get used to it. I dont miss the left lever at all. It now seems very natural to have one lever that does everything. The gear changes are smooth although the SRAM double shift does seem slightly less refined than Ultegra.

I decided not to get the CX comp. The more I looked at it, the more boring it seemed.

Can anyone recommend a similar bike with colourful colours. So not black or dark colours. A nice red or green or bright colour. Shame I couldn't get a London Road in lime green.

I've got Sora on my Boardman Road Comp.
Once it's set up properly it stays solid, reliable and not noticeably much worse than the shift on my 105 equipped Road Pro Carbon.

If you want a CX bike and don't want the Boardman then that effectively rules out Halfords as the only non-Boardman options are a cheaper Voodoo Limba, or this beauty http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/road-bikes/cinelli-zydeco-disc-cyclocross-bike which looks awesome but totally blows your budget (and is too expensive for C2W anyway)

You mentioned Tredz - what about this one? http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Saracen-Hack-R-2016-Cyclocross-Bike_83431.htm

Not sure how fat tyres you need but how about a Genesis equilibrium 10 disc?

Or a croix de fer?

Plenty of other retailers take Halfords C2W vouchers if that's what you'll have. And also, Halfords can source other brands, take a look at the employee part of the their C2W site
